My hero and best friend
When my sister was 10, I was 8 and my brother was 5 we were on our way to BC with my grandparents and my mom. We were in a head on collision and we're all taken to the hospital and my mom was taken by stars to the hospital where she later passed away. My dad was back in Edmonton at work when he got the call. After finding out that he had lost the love of his life he put on a brave face and took care of us 3 kids in the hospital and put our needs before his own. He was dying inside but still put us first. He raised us alone for 2 years when he decided to marry my step mom. She had 2 kids of her own who my dad took in and loved them as much as he did us. He then put all 5 of us kids first always. He would do anything for us. A year an a half ago my dad had a horrible accident. He is a framer and was out working one day when he lost his balance and fell head first from the roof of the house to the ground. He was flown by stars to the U of A where he had multiple skull fractures, a broken neck and had lost his hearing. He spent 2 months being deaf (when he was able to get a cochlear implant) and in the hospital. We would come to visit him almost every day and even then he wanted us to put our families first. He would tell us he was ok and that our families needed us, always putting us first. It is a long recovery but he is doing better than I ever thought he would be doing. He will be getting his license back soon (after over a year) and this would be an amazing surprise for him.
