When I was young, I think around 8 or 9 I went to bed having just had a fairly bad asthma attack. Around 1 o'clock, I stopped breathing entirely. However, my Dad, having the foresight to think that something lie this could happen, had let me sleep beside him for such a case. I woke up, frantically gasping for air, trying to get even the slightest of breath. Like clockwork, my Dad immediately got up, assessed the situation and as fast as he could picked me up and hauled me into the vehicle. He drove quickly to the hospital in our town and got me the medical attention that I needed to save my life. All in all, it took about 5 minutes from the time that I got up to the time that my dad got me in for medical attention. Considering that it was 1 o'clock in the morning, I would say that my dads actions that day, were to say the least, the very definition of being a dependable dad. If he wasn't, I would not have the great fortune of writing about him now.
